Yes. The stretchable sleeve with the grip bands holds the shin gaurds flat against the shin on its own, so there's nothing to tape, strap, or pull back up at halftime.
How well does it protect?

Light doesn't mean flimsy. The EVA foam stiffens on impact to absorb the hits, so it stays light while they run and firm when hit. It covers the whole front of the shin, not just a small patch.

Match Day gear is made to last and built to take the same beating as any gear on the field. To get the most life out of them, we recommend washing them with warm water on a delicate cycle and let them air dry.
